All About Easter

Queen Victoria Market is set to be Melbourne’s one-stop-shop this Easter with more than 150,000 people expected to flock to the Market over the Easter week, Tuesday 16 April to Tuesday 23 April.

Our Meat and Fish Hall will be the best place to secure the finest produce in town, boasting more than 30 specialty food retailers stocking everything from freshly shucked oysters and Australian prawns, yabbies and fish to high quality pork, beef and lamb.

Keeping with tradition, roast lamb is tipped to be the top pick for Easter Sunday. Max Thompson from Thompson Meats, winner of our Favourite Meat trader at last year’s Queen Victoria Market Trader Awards, is expecting to sell an extra 200kgs of lamb (leg and shoulder) this Easter.

“Easter for me is all about lamb! My grandmother had perfected the Easter family feast. She would slow-roast a lamb shoulder with garlic and rosemary and serve it with plenty of mint jelly. It’s old school, but a classic,” Mr Thompson said.

The smell of freshly baked hot cross buns will fill the Dairy Produce Hall, with buns to suit every taste. Pick up traditional fruit buns or try something different like white chocolate and raspberry, chocolate chip, or apple and cinnamon. There are also vegan, gluten free and spelt varieties available.

For those looking to organise Easter gifts, Koko Black will offer a range of decadent Easter packs to satisfy every chocolate lover. The Eggporium will host traditional Ukrainian egg decorating demonstrations and market-goers can also pick up their very own Anatoli egg-dyeing kits from The Hellenic Deli.

For little ones, the Market will host a dedicated Easter Trail from Saturday 6 April to Sunday 21 April. The trail will guide children around the Market to find bunnies, gather clues and win a prize.

The Easter Bunny will make a very special appearance at the Market on both Easter Saturday and Easter Sunday. Families can hop along between 10am and 2pm and collect some yummy Easter eggs to enjoy.
