Great Market Finds – J Shed
When it comes to shopping at Queen Vic Market, we have so many great things on offer in our specialty shopping sheds. Whether you’re on the lookout for a birthday present, a gift for a housewarming or something to brighten your own day, we’ve rounded up some of our top finds from J Shed.
Timber Vase from Woodcrafts Australia
If you need a cheese board or a new vase, look no further than Woodcrafts Australia. Located at J Shed (stall 1), owner Linda sells certified Australian woodware; from banksia cutting boards to ornate wine holders, there is something for every taste and every home. We love this small, handmade Australian banksia vase, perfect for an array of dried flowers ($68).
Grey Overcoat from Catcher Coats
Located in J Shed (stall 105-108), Catcher Coats have been at the Market for over 40 years! Selling their warm, Australian-made coats, duo Sally and David know how to cure the winter blues. We love this grey and black thick winter coat (perfect for layering) for only $140.
Aboriginal-Printed Fabric from LFZ Fabrics
If you love to sew or need to pick up some fabric with your weekend shop, head to LFZ Fabrics at J Shed (stall 40). Lana has a large array of silk, cotton or denim rolls and she can cut something made to measure. The price varies depending on the length and fabric you choose, but these traditional Aboriginal prints definitely caught our eye.
Cards from Henry’s Pop-Up Cards
Once you are done shopping for gifts, make sure you wow your receiver with a 3D pop-up greeting card from Henry. Henry and his wife Helen gained inspiration for their stall after a trip to Vietnam where they saw laser cut cards being made. After he moved to Australia, Henry started a graphic design course and bought a laser printer to be able to create the cards himself, and the rest is history. We especially love this fun train pop-up card ($6 individually, or you can buy in a bundle). Find Henry’s Pop-Up Cards at J Shed (stall 16-17).
DIY Wallet from The Two Sisters Shop
If you have the little ones in tow, occupy their imagination at Two Sisters, a stall that has customisable wallets, bags and more. For just under $10, you can customise your wallet with your name and the charms of your choice. There’s over 60 charms to choose from to create your one-of-a-kind gift. Find Two Sisters Shop at J Shed (stall 97).
Opal Necklaces from TAM Jewellery
For those that are after something special, Tim and Alyene at Tam Jewellery are a must-visit. With an array of silver charms, opal necklaces and rings, their family-run business has been at Queen Victoria Market since 1970. We couldn’t look past their opal necklaces which start at $90 and go right up to $1,300 (larger pieces pictured). Find Tam Jewellery at J Shed (stall 25-26).
