Market Infrastructure Works
Works commenced in mid-2023 to deliver dedicated trader and public amenities and essential back of house infrastructure located within close proximity of traders.
The new infrastructure will bring the Market’s operations into the 21st century and ensure we meet modern health, safety and environmental sustainability standards, while also making the Market an even better place to visit and shop.
Improved facilities and infrastructure have been designed based on trader feedback; will drive visitation and sales opportunities; and ensure the longevity of the Market. This includes:
- A new Trader Shed to replace the 1980s meat delivery and offal building located between H Shed and the Meat and Fish Hall. The purpose-built facility will include loading docks; climate-controlled trader storage; waste management; dedicated trader toilets, showers and lunchrooms; and new customer toilets, family room and accessible toilet.
- Centralised waste and recycling facilities for the entire Market, including organic waste, and segregated loading facilities in Queen Street to improve safety.
