Restoring and Revitalising the Market
Queen Victoria Market is being restored and revitalised to preserve its heritage and secure its future for future generations to enjoy.
The City of Melbourne’s $268 million Market Precinct Renewal Program and other exciting improvements to the customer and trader experience will secure the Market’s future as one of Melbourne’s most treasured destinations.
The revitalised Market will remain a raw and authentic working Market featuring restored heritage buildings and modern back-of-house facilities that will meet contemporary trader needs, improve safety and reduce our environmental impact.
We will create new open spaces, provide more places to sit and relax, and showcase the best local produce, specialty goods and local makers. More restaurants, bars, cafés, events and activities will create a more vibrant destination day and night.
The Market remains open for business throughout the Renewal with plans in place to ensure the Market can maintain safe operations and continue to provide a great shopping experience.
Updates and information about Renewal projects that are upcoming and underway are available here (with more details available via the tabs at the top).
Market Renewal Update – April 2023
Streetscape works are underway on Therry Street to widen footpaths and add more greenery, lighting and spaces to dwell. Alongside this, H & I shed restoration works are continuing and all your favourite traders (which includes some fruit & veg, organics and specialty stalls) will still be open and ready to serve you from their temporary home just across Queen Street in C and D Sheds.
Whilst there are changes to the way you navigate this area of the Market, all traders are open for business and we thank you for continuing to support our small, family businesses while we restore and revitalise the Market.
