Christmas Produce at Queen Vic Market

Christmas Produce at Queen Vic Market

Time to start planning the menu for your amazing Christmas spread? Here are a few helpful tips on how to navigate the Market this festive season.

We’ll be open all 5 days before Christmas and you can view all our Christmas trading hours here.

A staple at most Christmas do’s, a number of Market traders specialise in bone-in hams, including W.R King who showcase prize-winning Lago and Paramount Smallgoods Hams which are made using slow and gentle curing processes and are triple smoked with mountain ash. The best part, they come in all shapes and sizes, so are perfect for both big and small festivities. If you’re thinking of going free range this year, then the team at Bill’s Farm have just the ham for you! They’ve stocked up on Peter Bouchier Free Range Bone-in Ham, which are APIQ accredited and sourced from the Northern Grampians. Or make a ham statement this Christmas, with the finest Spanish ham (Air Dried Serrano Ham) from The Corner Larder. Their 1kg vacuum packed ham even includes a knife and cutting board! Be sure to pre-order your Christmas hams by Friday 14 December to avoid missing out.

The teams at the Corner Chicken Shop, Melbourne City Meats and The Chicken Pantry are determined to make cooking perfect poultry easy. Be it a whole turkey or fillet roll, all birds are certified free range and local to Victoria to ensure their freshness. At the Corner Chicken Shop, your turkey will even come with a choice of four homemade stuffings, including sage & onion (our favourite!), spinach & pinenut, gluten free apricot & macadamia and cranberry & chestnut. For those a little more daring in the kitchen, be sure to check out The Chicken Pantry’s extensive offer including duck, chicken, quail, game bird and venison for something different. They even have geese from a small farm in the Barossa. Be sure to pre-order by Friday 14 December to avoid disappointment.

With a Fish Hall fit for kings and queens, peruse the hundreds of locally caught fish and seafood species, including lobster, yabbies, crab and prawns. At Out of the Blue Seafood, stock up on beautiful Spencer Golf King Prawns, Queensland King Prawns, Fresh Crayfish sourced from Warrnambool (VIC), King Island (TAS) and Robe (SA). Other great selections include Huon salmon, Moreton Bay bugs, oysters and scallops. Looking for something a little different this year? Try Tribal Tastes African candy salmon which is free from preservatives, gluten and sugar and is sure to shine on your Christmas platter. A few other seafood picks include Gazza’s Seafood, Happy Tuna, George the Fishmonger and Victoria Market Seafood.

Get your fix on all things barbecue including gourmet sausages, pork rolls, lamb cutlets, kebabs and even wagu. A few picks include Thompsons Meat, Jenkins Quality Meats, Vic Meat Supply and Sardes Quality Meats.

Fill up on delicious sweet treats this festive season, including mince pies, Christmas cakes and puddings, gingerbread people (and houses), panforte and panettone. Ferguson Plarre Bakehouses are all about chocolate this festive season, with their Nutella Christmas Log and Gluten Friendly Chocolate Cake. Their flourless chocolate cake is topped with a decadent chocolate cream, chocolate ganache, lollies, strawberries and macarons; while over at Coffea Coffee you’ll find their prized Castagnaccio, a traditional Italian cake made with chestnuts, pine nuts and rosemary. Bill’s Farm have got puddings covered, with Stephen’s Fine Food Christmas Pudding (GF option available), and Sauced Fine Preserves have got an abundance of homemade jams, chutneys and sauces that are sure to complete your Christmas meal. A few other top picks include Andrew’s Specialty Breadshop, Vic Market Cake Shop, M & G Caiafa and Dianne’s Delights. Be inspired to try something new in the kitchen this festive season, and visit Books for Cooks who stock over 40,000 new, old and vintage books on cooking, food and the culinary arts, including the latest release, Meat: The Ultimate Companion. Pair your turkey and ham with a glass (or bottle) of Sparkling Shiraz from ReWine and pick up freshly made orange, mango & passionfruit juice from Market Juice. End the feasting with McIver’s Coffee & Tea Merchants specially crafted Christmas Tea blend, which is inspired by Christmas cake and is deliciously spicy, warm and hearty. Another annual McIver’s tradition is their Christmas Pudding Coffee. Every year their roaster blends up a new seasonal Christmas coffee, which is rich, sticky, boozy, fruity… and taste just like a Christmas pudding!
