Day of the Dead Celebrations

Day of the Dead Celebrations

Starting October 28th, String Bean Alley will become a vibrant Mexican street with papel picado banners overhead—a photogenic spot you can’t miss! Day of the Dead, a colorful Mexican holiday honoring loved ones who have passed, will fill the alley with altars, energy, and the festive spirit of Mexico, bringing the celebration to the heart of Melbourne!

Community Altar

Get ready to celebrate, remember, and share! Bring your favourite memories, photos, and stories to our Day of the Dead Community Altar—a vibrant space to honor those we’ve lost and celebrate life with the community.

How to Participate:

  • Bring a framed photo or small object (shoebox size or smaller) representing your loved ones, such as sugar skulls or unlit candles. For multiple items, please pack them in a bag.
  • Drop off your items at La Calavera during open hours (Thu-Fri: 9 AM – 3 PM, Sat-Sun: 9 AM – 4 PM) from October 12 to November 1. Make sure all personal items are clearly labeled with your name and contact info.
  • Items can be collected from La Calavera between November 7-10 during business hours.

Join the Day of Dead celebrations on November 2nd!

Our vibrant altar will light up String Bean Alley with live music, a stunning Catrina exhibit, cultural talks, and a photo station! Visitors can write messages for loved ones and place them on the altar, joining this heartwarming tradition. Don’t forget to dress in your Day of the Dead best!
