Running exclusively on 15th and 16th August from 10am, The TONY Trail reimagines the Market through Bourdain’s eyes, celebrating the traders, fresh produce and vibrant food culture that makes Queen Victoria Market one of Melbourne’s most iconic culinary destinations. The tour also pays tribute to Bourdain’s own visit to the Market during the 2009 Melbourne episode of No Reservations, honouring its place at the heart of the city’s world-renowned food scene.
The journey begins with a leisurely stroll through the colourful Upper Market fruit and vegetable sheds, whereguests will soak up the sights, aromas and stories that have defined the Market for almost 150 years.
The first tasting stop is The Mussel Pot, where freshly cooked mussels are served in a selection of rich, flavourful sauces. From there, guests venture into the historic Meat & Fish Hall for a premium seafood experience featuring freshly shucked oysters and the finest seasonal seafood available on the day.
The trail continues into the Dairy Produce Hall with a tasting of traditional pickled octopus—a tribute to Melbourne’s rich Greek culinary heritage—alongside locally produced artisan charcuterie. Guests will then sample char-grilled backstrap of kangaroo, showcasing one of the country’s most distinctive native ingredients, before enjoying a selection of exceptional Australian artisan cheeses.
Back in the Upper Market, a tasting of seasonal fresh fruit offers a refreshing palate cleanser before the experience concludes with one of Melbourne’s most iconic sweet treats: a hot jam doughnut from The American Doughnut Kitchen, a beloved Queen Victoria Market institution that has delighted generations of visitors.
