Chef Daniel Wilson announced as new Queen Victoria Market ambassador
Melbourne chef Daniel Wilson was today announced as a new official Queen Victoria Market ambassador. Wilson’s role will be focused on profiling the variety of traders and produce at Queen Victoria Market while sharing and celebrating the unique features of market shopping.
Wilson will support the Queen Victoria Market in a number of ways, from regularly sharing recipes and seasonal produce updates, to contributing to tours and hosting cooking demonstrations.
Wilson has been a regular visitor to the Market since he moved to Melbourne in the early 2000s and has built up a specialist knowledge of its fresh produce offering.
On his appointment as Queen Victoria Market ambassador, Wilson said: “I am thrilled to be able to share my knowledge of the Market and highlight its unique qualities. From the variety of produce, to the warm community spirit, there is nowhere else quite like it. As a chef, it is also extremely rewarding to be able to connect with traders who are experts on provenance and seasonality.”
City of Melbourne Lord Mayor Sally Capp said Daniel Wilson was perfect for the role. “As an official ambassador, Daniel will encourage visitors to take a closer look and rediscover a different layer of our treasured city market. “I’m excited that Daniel will be able to take us ‘behind the scenes’ and celebrate what makes our beloved Queen Victoria Market so unique and special for both locals and visitors to Melbourne.”
Wilson joins David Mann OAM, best known as the 3AW radio personality ‘Mann about Town’, who was appointed as a Queen Victoria Market Ambassador in 2018.

Wilson originally trained as a chef in Michigan and New York before moving to Melbourne to continue his culinary career. He was awarded The Age Good Food Guide Young Chef of the Year award in 2003 and in 2010 he opened Huxtable restaurant in partnership with Jeff Wong and Dante Ruaine.
