Summer has arrived and we’ve got loads of things for you to do over the festive season. There’s everything from Melbourne’s first-ever summer ice rink to sustainable Christmas workshops to the Melbourne Book Market. Santa will arrive to spread Christmas cheer and the epic Summer Night Market continues. Get your diaries out – your December events calendar is packed with all the good stuff.

Air Canada Ice Rink
Market Days 1-24 December & Wednesday Nights during Summer Night Market
The Market has partnered with Air Canada to create Melbourne’s first outdoor summer ice rink for Christmas. The rink will offer cool, festive fun for skaters of all ages and rink-side treats will include coffee, maple syrup ice cream, Canada’s legendary poutine (a national treasure of French fries, cheese curds and gravy), plus fairy floss and popcorn for little ones.

Santa Claus is Coming to Town
Saturday 22 & Sunday 23 December, 10am-2pm
Santa will arrive to share his festive cheer with mini Market-goers. Children will be able to send their wish lists directly to Santa’s workshop at the North Pole via his mailbox, located in C Shed from Saturday 1 December. All letters will receive a reply.

Christmas Sustainable Workshops
Sunday, December 9, various session times

Get into the festive spirit at QVM with our Sustainable Christmas gift making workshops. Choose one or do them both! Learn how to make your own beeswax wraps – a great reusable alternative to plastic bags and cling wrap. Or learn some of the old traditions for preserving. Both workshops are hands-on and you won’t leave empty handed.

Melbourne Book Market
Sunday 16 December, 10am-4pm

One of Melbourne’s most beloved book markets will visit QVM in December. Enjoy browsing a curated collection of more than 5000 new and pre-loved titles selected by 15 of Melbourne’s most experienced book dealers, as well as authors and illustrators. Peruse literature, history, gardening, travel, art and kids’ books. You’ll also find quality second-hand vinyl records and CDs. This one is great for the bookwork in your family.

Melbourne Collective Design Market
Saturday 1 & 8 December, Sunday 2 & 9 December 

The Melbourne Collective Design Market brings together local designers and creatives to showcase their products to the community. Take a leisurely walk through the isles for a colourful selection of art, ceramics, jewellery, home decor, stationery, illustrations and more. There’ll also be music, entertainment and delicious food.

Summer Night Market
Wednesdays 5pm-10pm (excl 26 December)
Melbourne’s summer night market is back for its biggest summer yet. This year there are over 60 global street food stalls and more than 100 specialty shopping pop-ups, plus the usual bars and a rotating line up of live music and entertainment. Grab your buds and soak up the best of summer with a range of tastes and plenty of backyard games like totem tennis, Jenga and chess.

Tuesday 4 & 11 December, from 11am
Enjoy Christmas performances from children of Fitzroy North Primary School and St Michael’s North Melbourne Primary School. Lap up the bustling Christmas vibe at Queen Vic with festive Christmas carols filling the air as you shop.
